Modern China – Glorietta, Makati City

Filed under: Chinese, Malls — gourmandtales @ 12:22 pm

Address: G/F Glorietta 4, Ayala Ave. cor. Pasay Rd., Makati Ave.

Makati City, Metro Manila

Phone Number: (02) 752-8728 to 29

Arguably the best Chinese restaurant in the Glorietta Mall. Open since 4 years ago., This restaurant has already carved its named in the food eating business because of its consistent quality of food and good service. I just dont like the mall location. Own by George Pua who according to Philippine daily inquirer is a Chinese culinary Guru.

I dont know whats so modern about this place. THe settings and interiors shouts typical chinese restaurant. THey serve the typical chinese fare with soe variations in the other stuff. But i have to try the usual dishes first before i venture on the other stuffs

On the table

Steam Fish Fillet in Garlic -sp_a1132 Dory fillet, on top of tofu slices. steam toppe with garlic and drizzled with soy sauce. The garlic penetrating the fish but not overpowering the taste of the dory. THe soy sauce adds a light salty contrast to the fish. THe tofu soaking up all the juiced.. yum… Served steaming hot… liked it.

Lemon Chickensp_a1131 – Their version of Lemon chicken is one of better versions. THe chicken was fried perfectly.  The skin was crispy.. the meat was crunchy on the outide yet very moist inaide. THe sauce has just the right amount of tartness and sweetness. It has a watery-syrupy consistency. Very Very good.

Overall, i like th dishes i ordered, will be back and try the other dishes, especially the dishes that only they have..sp_a1133

Tatami Japanese Restaurant – Serendra

Filed under: Fort, Japanese — gourmandtales @ 12:04 pm

Address: G/F Serendra, Bonifacio Global City

Taguig City, Metro Manila

TEl NO:(02) 901-1870

Parking: Basement PArking Available

Serendra was built with the vision of having restaurants of different cuisines. Until now i think they are still true to their vision. THere might be more than one coffee shop though,.. hehe

Here is the only Japanese Restaurant in the complex. Even High Street doesnt have a japanese resto… correct me if i am wrong please.

Tatami– which in japanese means, the type of  flooring usually used in old japanese houses, made from wooden soft rush straws.

Salmon Sashimi P250sp_a1946- fresh salmon slices..no fishy odor.. good quality salmon.

Beef Rolls- sp_a1951this was just okay, nothing unusual.

Angus Rib Eye Fried Rice P170- this was highway robbery, i think the beef here was less then 5 grams, so miniscule, the rice wasnt even off great quality.

Assorted Seafood Teppanyaki P315sp_a1948- For a high priced japanese restaurant.. where have they learn that Squid balls considered as seafood???????

Everytime i pass here, the people eating here are becoming less and less. I think its just a matter of time until this places closes shop. Unless they revamp their food and make it better. sp_a1945

Luck Garden Tea House and Restaurant – Quezon City

Filed under: Asian, Chinese, Quezon City — gourmandtales @ 11:35 am

Address: Kanlaon cor Quezon Avenue, Quezon City

Parking: Available in Front of the restos.

Function rooms available

The Newest Chinese restaurant in the Quezon City Area.  Located in an area wherein they are the only non fast food establishment. Its near Burger King and Jollibee in Quezon Avenue. Was surpirsed to see this restuarant in the Area. I heard form a friend that the area has good Feng Shui. Well, probably coz i always see this place full of cars parked outside.

The interiors are very bright,photo-0033 with the usual things you can find in a Chinese Restaurant. Aquariums, Big round tables, Roast items hanging by a window. The kitchen can be seen from the dining area though. Not really an open kitchen coz it is divided by glass.

On the Table

Hakao- P80-photo-0038photo-0039 hmm.. a sweet deal, nice size, good amount of shrimp pieces. very good.

Crab and Corn Soup-photo-0034 small order which served 5 to 6 small bowls. Piping hot, not as much crab as i would want it to have, nevertheless, it a nice soup to whet the appetite.

Beef Tenderloin Chinese Style-photo-0035 Tenderlion peices, beaten up eith e meat tenderizer, quickly panfried then doused with a sweet red sauce. THe beef pieces were tender, THe sauce was not too sweet which i like.

Sweet and sour fishfilletphoto-0037- They used Dory filler here, which for the past years have become increasingly a popular choice for white fish fillet. Lightly battered and deep fried to maintain its moisture inside and cispyness outside. THe sweet and sour sauce has just the right amount of sweetness and sour tones.

Yang Chow Fried Rice- good amount of “sahog” large dish for a “small” order.

THe dishes here can be ordered in small, medium or large sizes, We orderd the small Sizes which are good for 3 to 4 people. This restaurant  service was fast. Everything was served very hot off the wok. THe autehnticity of the food here is the same as the ones found in binondo.luck-garden Will definitely be back ehre and try the other dishes. They also have rice topping and noodle dishes.

Spirals – Sofitel Philippine Plaza

Filed under: Hotel Restaurant, buffet — gourmandtales @ 12:55 pm

Address: Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila
CCP Complex Roxas Boulevard Pasay City 1300 MANILA, PHILIPPINES
(+63)2/5515555 – (+63)2/5515610

From their webpage– described as…..Manilas most fashionable eatery is a concept restaurant with multi-cuisine open cooking stations. Indoor and outdoor environments blend beautifully in the spacious, natural setting.

Among the hotel restaurants who are offering the interactive buffet, This is the largest and with the widest variety of items.

Service was great, attentive and quick. Seats and tables are well placed, not too cramp like the other hotel restaurants.

On the table

Appetizer plate-sp_a2541sp_a2542 Mussels which i topped with ceasar dressing, shaved parmesan and bacon bits, Smoked salmon with with dill mustard, japanese makis

Asian Plate- sp_a2543sp_a2544Xiao Long Bao, Siomai, Hakao, Roasted Duck Wrap, LEchon Macau, Aspara-Bacon.. it really disappoitn me when hotel buffet restaurants serveds chinese dumsum dishes that are not high quality. THe siomai and Hakao were forgettable, the Xiao long bao is dry, THe lechon macau skin looks crispy, but only looks.. it was not crispy at all. THe Roasted Duck wrap was good though.

Sukiyaki- sp_a2545this was good, the soup has th right amount of saltiness and sweetness.. balanced.. the meat was cut thin and melts in your mouth.

Japanese PLate-sp_a2547 Tempura and aspara-Bacon, Croquette- the aspra bacon was good like i said from above, the tempura…. well… i wish they would use gibber shrimps or prawns, the croquette were ok

Roast Plate-sp_a2548 Lamb Chop, Slice of Roast Beef, and Slice of Beef Belly- the roast beef was alittle tough even when it is cooked just the way i liked it, the beef belly was tender and fatty:). the lambchops were cooked ala minute in front of me..

Pizza with Arugula Leaf- sp_a2549 among the hotel buffets, their pizzas are one of the better ones

Grilled Chilean Sea Bass with Fresh Salsa–sp_a2551 now this was the highlight of the dinner. soft flesh, cooked when ordered, seasoned just with salt and pepper. THe freshness of the fish and the delicious natural flavor of the fish exudes in every single bite..

Dessert Plate- sp_a2554sp_a2555Crepes, Ice Cream ,  Creme Brulee, Panna Cotta- everything was good, for the this restaurant has the best dessert delection among all the hotel buffets.

Final word.. the food here is really not as well prepared as say, Paseo Uno and Circles, but the huge array  of  food will blow you away, they have the best dessert selection so far for me, the grilled items is what i look forward to here, but sometimes the seabass is not available.

One more thing..sp_a2556 they have the most difficult set of utensils to use.. do u agree?

Dragon Noodle Center – Malate

Filed under: Chinese, Malate — gourmandtales @ 1:15 am

Address: 1037 M.H. del Pilar St., Malate Manila.

Phone Number: 525-1563

Parking- Street PArking

Here is one of the dining institutions in Malate. Famous for its noodles and congee. PLace is not as clean as you would want it to be. Lot of stains in the table cloth, floors a bit wet.

Service was fast and attentive though.

On the Table

Beef Congee sp_a2574-  if you love your congee a bit runny.. this congee is not for you. THeir congee is thick, the rice morsel almost cloying to a smooth paste. Not really my type of congee but my brother loves it.  Served piping hot, with a egg that u mixed with the congee before eating it.

Beef and Wanton Noodles-sp_a2575 The beef is very very tender, the sweet soy marinade penetrating each fiber strand and all the tendon. The wantons are not as good as the ones in Charlies Wanton. Soup was a light beef broth with just the right spices. The bnodles was cooked aldente. Very filling bowl here.

Prices have gone up since the last time i came here, it ranges from 90 pesos to 150 pesos per order… But something that withstood the test of time definitely they are doing something right to stay this long..sp_a2573

Ultimate T-bone P300-  photo-0018photo-0019dont expect angus or wagyu quality beef here. Expect some chewiness. Yutaka Izakaya – Quezon City

Filed under: Family servings, Japanese, Quezon City — gourmandtales @ 4:26 am

Address: GF Unit X Aurora, Quezon City
Near UERMMMC
Tel No: 7136558

Parking Available in front of the restaurant

Amidst all the great japanese restaurants in Makati City, there is a small Japanese restaurant that is slowly carving a name in Quezon City. Slowly because,  this restuarnat has been there for the past 7 years and yet, a lot of people still havent heard of the place, so give me a chance to share with you my find.

This restaurant is tucked quietly among the rows of schools near SM City Sta Mesa, interiors are mostly made of wood, to give you a very izakaya atmosphere, but sadly they dont servfe much alcoholic drinks here to be branded as a genuine izakaya.

On the Table

Kani Salad-

sp_a2638

u have the usual, kani strips, the jap mayo, shredded fresh greens, ebiko. mango slices.. but there  more here.. they do their kani salad with cubed tamago.. woohoo….love it

California Maki(90)sp_a2641- for me this is the best bang for a buck california maki..  size is just right. filling is adequate with the extra tamago inside, a dab of mayo on top and the right amount of ebiko hugging the rice morsels:)

Mixed SashimiP 250sp_a2644sp_a2645- a melange of colors and different texture of different sea creature. from the salmon to the tuna to the grouper and lastly to the sea urchin. All fresh.. chilled, never frozen seafood delight

Beef Yakiniku set(P145)sp_a2639– a little oily.. comes with a bowl of miso soup and rice. THe beef was not as tender as i hope it would be. for the rpice. it was good

Ebi Tempurasp_a2642- 5 pieces of medium size prawns, 1 asohos fillet and i veggie tempura all for P180. the batter is just the way i like it, flaky and light, no oily aftertaste.

Assorted skewerssp_a2646- everything weas cooked perfectly, cooked through but still moist and tender inside, the basting was just right to give it a sweet and salty flavor but not overpowering the natural flavor of the meat

TEmpura with sliced beef soba soup-sp_a2643 forgot the exact name of the dish, this was very very good, the soba has just the right bite, the soup was light dashi broth.

Agedashi tofu(P50)sp_a2647- one of best looking agedashi tofu in town. Cubed silky tofu, breaded fried then doused with a sweet light soy sauce topped with pickled ginger, spring onions and bonito flakes.. eat everything in one bite to marry all the different flavors…

THe aftermathsp_a2650

Great food, very affordable, great prices.. what more can i ask for.:) sp_a2637

Cafe Otello – Makati City-CLOSED

Filed under: Italian, Makati City — gourmandtales @ 11:29 am

Address: U 202 100 Rufino St. corner Dela Rosa St. Legaspi Village,
Makati City

Operating hours: 10am to 7pm

Walking along Dela Rosa St in Makati, a person wouldnt notice this restaurant unless he or she is looking upwards or he/she is walking along the covered elevated walkway(overpass) along the street. This quaint italian restaurant is the little brother of L’ Incontro.. which i found out after eating here; so i was really surprise by the quality of food.

Not knowing at first that it is a little branch of L Incontro, i was a bit hesitant  to order looking at the one page menu. but what the heck, the foodie in me wanted to try this restaurant since a year ago, so here i go

On the table

Crepes Stuffed with ham and cheese in Truffle oil and porcini sauceP170sp_a2608sp_a2609- now.. after reading that, who would not want to order this…. the sauce is fantastic, creamy, savory, wonderful. the stuffing was also good.  great appetizer…

Tortellini Padrin0- Spinach ricotta cheese ravioli in tomato sauce and eggplant(P180)sp_a2613 the tomato sauce was very good, taste fresh with the right spicyness to lift up the flavors, the cube eggplant does its work on contrast in texture but not really add much to the taste. The stuffing inside the tortellini.. well,, it wouldnt hurt if they could stuffed it with more filling

Spaghetti GambarettiP180sp_a2611sp_a2612 with fresh tomatoes and small prawns- now this was a surprise,  lots of gambaretti, lot of fresh tomatoes, pasta cooked aldente, mixed with olive oil and white wine. Refreshing taste, nothing heavy, light and good.. a winner here

Pizzeta Margherita P120sp_a2610-  Sadly, this was the sad part of the meal, crust was too thick,  that alone wontmake me order this dish again.

Dessertsp_a2614– complimentary fried pasta showered with powdered sugar.. a nice ending to a good meal.

THey serve lunch buffer for only P265 which features 2 main courses, 2 or 3 pasta dishes, a good buy, if u ask me, but be sure to be hungry.

Overall, the food here surprised me, didt expect it to be this yummy, will definitely come back here…
