Filed under: Breakfast food, Makati City, Malls — gourmandtales @ 11:58 am

Breakfast is not really a meal i am used to eat. Schools starts too early, nobody awake to cook breakfast. All i have was a piece of pandesal and a glass of MILO

GRams diner, first opened in rockwell in the mid 90s, following the concept of Pancake house serving breakfast all day. This place has always been a nice place to eat when your hungry, Servings are huge, Service is fast and quick

I got the breakfast platter P195- gram1which consist of a dozen of silver dollar pancakes. Country Style Potatoes, A thick slice of SPAM,  2 eggs cooked the way you like it and 2 slices of Bacon. All i can say was.. WOW.. when this plate arrived.grams Peso for Peso one of the best breakfast plate in town.grams2

Polu Kai – Serendra

Filed under: Fort — gourmandtales @ 11:25 am

I always believed deep in my heart that restaurant should make most of their food from scratch. Meaning. they should make sauces, bread, etc etc from scratch. Because if they are only gonna serve something that we can easily buy from the supermarket. Why would we eat there in the first place and it dishearten me when restaurants especially in high-end places like Serendra cant even make their own Chicken Burger

Here is the reason for my rant.

I ordered the Polu Kai Chicken Burger P270 de scribed as :”Crispy fried double chicken patty with cheddar cheese, lettuce and tomato in a Kaiser bun, served with potato wedges and mac salad”

Here is what i gotpolu11polu21 – How hard is it to debone a Chicken breast or thigh then bread it and fry it???  Look also at the tiny, very thin slice of tomato. and for the price….. wow…. DISAPPOINTING!!!

Eat well – Fort, Taguig

Filed under: Chinese, Dessert, Fort — gourmandtales @ 11:25 am

Address: Unit C, Ground Level Net Quad Bldg, 30-31st St, BOnifacio Global City, Taguig

Tel No: (02) 8569408

Parking- Pay parking lot available in front of the restaurant.

One of the up and coming Chinese Restaurant in the Fort area..or so i read.. Not a lot of chinese restaurant in the vicinity. Heard lots of praises about this place, so i have to give it a try. Located in the Deustche Bank Bldg, not part of the Fort strip, Serendra, High Street area.

THe head chef is said to be Cantonese who used to be the head chicnese chef in one of the Big hotels in Cebu.  He is always present here in the restaurant.

Place was bustling with people eating. Service was not very good, You have to call the attention of the waiter/waitresses a couple of times and remind them a couple of times before the request was granted.

On the table:

Siomai P88- eat214  pieces of pork and shrimp siomai. As you can see the Shrimp was a bit dried up already.  It didnt look and taste plump and juicy

Hakao P125-eat3 a bit pricey for three pieces and tastewise, i find Gloria Maris winning in this category

Crispy Pork(lechon Macau) P200- eat1eat11a expected a lot with this dish when i saw it on this website http://guides.clickthecity.com/metro/?p=4386 ; so i was disappointed when our serving was considerably smaller compared to the one on that website. It was okay, the skin was crispy, the pork was not too fatty.

Yang Chow Fried Rice P148eat41- Taste like the regular yang chow we get from any chinese restaurant. Nothing special here

SEafood Fried Noodles with XO Sauce P238-eat71 this was good. The XO sauce was very evident in the dish, giving it a seafood essence and a kick to the dish. THe crispy noodles soaking up every bit of sauce.

Steam Egg white with seafood(P238)-eat8 silky egg white topped with chopped seafood.  My comment here is to lower the price, then use bigger chunks of seafood

Sweet and sour Fish Fillet P180- eat5This dish could have been great if the use bigger pieces of fish, the crispyness of the coating was perfect, the sauce was also good, but like i said the size of the fish pieces were too small

Deep fried spareribs in spicy salt P220-eat6 this was a letdown, the spareribs were too dry. too meaty. not enough fat in between to keep it moist and succulent

Mango Sago with Almond Jelly P48-eat10- love this dessert. affordable and refreshing

White Chocolate Masachi P55- eat111eat12another thing i love. warm dish that soothes the tummy after a big meal.

Overall, the place remind me of ZONG when it newly opened. I recommend the desserts here. Aside from that.. it was not really great.. Just good.eat9

Kimono Ken Japanese Restaurant

Filed under: Family servings, Japanese, Malls — gourmandtales @ 10:22 am

When it comes to Chinese food htere are the Casual Chinese restaurants like North Park, Superbowl etc. THe Japanese counterparts are Teriyaki Boy, TEmpura Grill and this restaurant. What differs this restauran from the other two mentioned? 1st they dont mention on their name any specialtiy. Teriyaki boy has its Teriyaki, and Tempura grill has its.. Tempura.

On the table

Crunchy Kani Maki P135sp_a1226- love the play of textures, creamy, and crunchy. It like solo servings of kani salald

Gyudon- P185sp_a1227 Soft beef slices. wonderful sweet soy mirin sauce.  mix everthing together withethe hot rice and you have a complete meal here

Oyakodon-sp_a1228P160 Tender chicken cubes mixed with onions, veggies topped on rice, another meal by itslef

Spicy Shake SaladP190sp_a1229-   i love how they make the salmon crispy without drying it out and taste like chips of wood. THe dressing was also very good. Could use a bit of spicy kick though

Tofu SteakP170sp_a1230- this pales in comparison with TEriyaki Boy’s verysion

Karaage specialP160sp_a1231sp_a1236- special meaning having bits of squid and shrimp. Bits land talaga. However it was fried perfectly. not oily but beautifully crisp

Asparabacon makiP150-sp_a1232 What can go wrong with a dish with bacon. Nothing:)

Chicken TeriyakiP175sp_a1233- compared to Tboy this was just OK

Beef TeppanyakiP295sp_a1234- this dish could have been better if the beef was more tender. However aside from that flaw, the marinade penetrated the meat very well and the taste was very good

Chicken KaarageP145sp_a1237- this was just okay. Fried with a sweet and spicy sauce.

I prefer the food here as compared to TEmpura or Teriyaki Boy. Except for a few dishes. Overall this places served decent japanese food.

The Legend Seafood Restaurant – Pasay City

Filed under: Chinese, Family servings, Pasay City — gourmandtales @ 9:27 am

Address: Boom na Boom Compound CCP Complex, Roxas Blvd., Manila

Tel No: 833-1188 / 833-3388

Parking: a lot available for parking.

Chinese restaurants are a dime a dozen here in our country.  THe more popular ones being Gloria Maris and Emerald Garden. A lot of people dont know about this semi hidden gem in the Pasay Area.

Opened in 2006,  this belongs to a chain of Chinese Restaurants located in different parts of the country. Among them is Fortune in Angeles City, Le Gardein in Cavite etc etc.

Places looks like the typical Chinese restaurant. Big, bright, full of people. Aquariums and large round tables.

On the Table

Hakao-sp_a1137sp_a1138 the wrapper was not the elastic chewy kind. It easily broke apart. The filling has a lot of extenders. Not really one of the top hakao ive eaten.

Spinach and seafood soup-sp_a1140 This was good, Didnt scrimp on the ingredients here.

Salt and Pepper Squid- sp_a1141Anton of our awesome planet was raving about this dish. I find it ordinary. One more thing i think the meat was more of a cuttlefish not a squid

Braised Beef Short Ribs- sp_a11421now this was good. They made use of US short ribs. Which was evident it the tenderness of the meat. THe sauce was also fantastic. Sweet and spicy. Very very good

Sweet and sour pork- sp_a11431 One of the better sweet and sour pork. CRispy on the outside, soft and tender meat inside. THe sauce also was great. Hugging each pork pieces very well.

Fish Fillet in Corn Saucesp_a1144-  Big fish fillet which i like. the corn sauce was also good. Added a sweet taste to the soft flaky fish fillet.

Hot Prawn Salad-sp_a1145 The prawn was cooked perfectly. crispy, succulent and very delicious. THe light floured surface help the sauce to adhere to it. Blend of sweet and slight salty tones. YUmmy

THe dishes here are great. Be careful of the suggestions of the waiter or managers that are not in the menu. Coz they are quite ezpensive and you might be surprise with your bill later on.sp_a1136

Quezon City, Metro Manila

Tel No:(02) 927-0649

Parking – Limited Spaces in Front and side of the restaurant

Quezon City is not really known as a Mecca for Japanese Cuisine. I think Makati Holds that title. There aare only a handful of Japanese Restaurant that i would recommend to people. This place is good , not really great, but good.

Located at the 2nd floor of Forum bldg, on top of Wan Chai Chinese Restaurant.  This place has been open for nearly 4 yrs now. and it has been dishing out consistently good japanese food.

On the table

Mango Avocado Roll- sp_a2400nice creation, the avocado huggin the maki, giving it a velvety buttery texture. Yummy

Kani Salad- sp_a2401This was just okay, there were more cucumber than kani..

Fried Breaded Scallops- sp_a2402another jsut okay dish, nothing special.

Tempura-sp_a2403 this is the way i love my tempura, light batter, nothing heavy, not oily. Bigger could have been better, but i am not complaining with the size of ebi thay used.

Katsudon-sp_a2404 a meal in itself, tender pork slices, nice sauce. great

Maki with Spicy Tuna-sp_a2405 love this roll, the tuna pieces were indeed fresh, the spicy element was present, ingredients were not scrimp

Beef Amiyaki-sp_a2406 tender. love it

Squid Butteryakisp_a2408- another dish i always order here. Swuiid was cooked perfectly. Fried then sauteed in butter. THe breading absorbing the butter. Yum yum

Salmon teriyaki-sp_a2407 the do it differently by breading the salmon, not something i like, but still enjoy it..

Definitely one of the better Quezon City Japanese Restaurants.
