Cheap desserts – Chowking Mango Sago

Filed under: Dessert, Fast Food, Malls — gourmandtales @ 3:04 am

I never liked chowkings food… for me i call it fake chinese food. My family loves their halo-halo.. Chaep, quick fix for a cool treat. They have a new dessert which caught my attention, being someone who loves the BEST fruit in the whole planet. MANGO

Tagged at 39 pesos, this dessert contains, shaved ice, sweet milk, sago and mango cubes…choekingchowking

Wit the heat in the metro, and with the numerous chowking branches, try this treat. I liked it… Chaeap and refreshing.

Lo and behold, theres this cute  stalls found in different supermarkets and department stores. Selling freshly made bibingka… mini bibingka. looks so cute

And now they have a new variant.. Bibingkidonuts. bingka

Ingenious. i love  it, instead of the usual salted egg and cheese topping, they used powedered suagr then they fill the bibingka with different kinds of fillings.bingka1 Just make sure, they fill it properly, remember, bibingka is a bit dense so if the server dont put in properly baka sa dulo lang magkakaroon.bibingka

Little did i know that there has been a restaurant here in the Quezon City area that serves good food. Its unusual for a restauant to be there and me not knowing it, and i was surprised that this place has been in existince for close to a year now.

Its about time to try it.  Located in one of the side streets of Tomas Morato, i had to call the number for directions. THe place has 2 floors with a seating capacity of 30 maximun, ithink. Interios are kept to a minimal. Place looks pretty clean and well kept. The chef is said to be a graduate of Genes Gonzales School( to which i am not really a fan of, i fell chef Gene is overrated)

On the Table

Free Bread: chefGoooooooood

Pisa tower-(148) with shrimps, wild mushroom and tomato garlic sauce-chef1 i absolutely love the presentation.  the sauce reminded me of the tomato garlic sauce of Bravo.. the ones they sell in Bazaars and supermarket, the down side here were the shrimps were finely chopped. sna it was bigger pieces of whole it would be even better.

Assault and battery(278)- mixed fried seafood- chef4good version of tempura, the sauce was not as good as i thought it would be. Lacks the wasabi kick, the mango was a good idea though

Baby Back ribs(368)chef2chef3- this was the best dish of the night, tender tender ribs, flavorful from the marinade, sweet, yet not too much.  THe accompanying sides were also a great match to the dish

Mushroom Pizza with truffle o(348)chef8l- not really a good crust, but the cheese and mushroom and truffle oil lacing the top.. yummy… sana they would change their crust recipe…..

Lamb Chops(368)chef7-the bad thing here, they used the cheap cut.. not the rack cut.

Crepes w Apples and Pecan aka Mortal Sinchef9– nicely done crepe.. filling was also good. The apples were cooekd but still holds some crispyness.

Overall, the place hold promise. I hope the year in the business showed them ways to improve better.  Hope they would use better cuts of lamb. heheChef bistro

The Villavicencio clan open this little restaurant last 2008, claiming it to be a a japanese grill place and a sushi bar.  THe place sprawns 3 dining areas. With a open(covered w glass) kitchen so u can see the food being prepared.

To those who dont knw the Villavicencios, they are the one who owns the Triple V group. Kamayan, Saisaki and Dads

With no really great japanese restaurant in Quezon City, we decided to give this place a try even if i dont really agree in eating here. It was Moms Choice…

Place was bustling with people..  service was fast and efficient..

THere were a section for buffet and a  section of alacarte., but u can combine if you want also.

La Dolce Vita Bar and REsto – Polaris St, Makati City

Filed under: Italian, Makati City — gourmandtales @ 12:38 pm

Address: Polaris St, Makati City

Parking: Available in front of the restaurant

This is perhaps.. to date the newest italian restaurant in the City of Makati. Just a few months old. This establishment is where the old La Taverna(which i sorely miss) use to be.

Setting is quite dark.. Furniture, tables and chairs doenst look like they are a new restaurant. dolce3 Doesnt even look like they are an italian restaurant. I was a little bit skeptical of the place, but what the heck. I am already here, why not try a few dishes..

On the Table: pls pardon the picture as the flashing green neon lights were creating problems to my camera

Pasta Vongole: dolce2 Suprisingly, they made good vongole, the clams were all cooked.. which was a good sign, THe pasta was lightly flavoured by the clam broth, white wine, olive oil and some fresh herbs. You can taste the freshness of the clams and the simplicity of the way it was cooked

Pizza – Half  Gamberi Half Italian Sausage -dolce For me the crust will always be the main event. If the crust is not good, no matter how good the topping is, it will fail in my standards.  THe crust here is excellent. thin, but not paper thin, with the burnt edges i love munching on. THe topping were a bit scarse, i love the tomato sauce they used and the amount of cheese they put were just right.  Overall, it was a good pizza.

Drinks- i forgot the name of this drink,dolce5 but i like the way it was served, very unique. THey didnt scrimp on the alcohol content too, which was good also. THey have a lot of combinations that makes you wanna try everything at once but you just simply cant.

WEll, overall, despite the ambience,.. which was calling for some renovation. even if the place is new. THe food here was very good.  TRy it and tell me if you like it..dolce4

Big Better Burger – Timog Ave

Filed under: American, Quezon City — gourmandtales @ 11:54 pm

I love burgers, butnever the yum burger of Jollibee(sorry jollibee fans) I love my burgers, meaty and pack. For fastfood burgers, nothing beats Wendys. Pure beef patties.. Meaty godness. Fzntastic. But we are not gonna talk about fastfood burgers now. I will be talking about this new burger outlet thats trying to make a name for itself. They call themself, Big Better Burgers. Located in the 2nd level of the Robinsons Supermarket area in Timog Quezon City. That why if you dont know that there is a burger place herel, i dont think you will find it.

The place is relatively small. can fit around 10 to 15 peoples comfortable. Everything is made to orderphoto-0002

On the Table

Jalapeno Salsa Burger(136)-photo-0004photo-0005 I like how their burger taste more fresh than Brothers(i think the expansion is killing theri quality) The size was just right to be full, not not overstuffed. THe Jalapeno factor was a bit mild for my taste. Added a few strips of bacon.. because.. who can resist bacon right??? THe burger was juicy and meaty, definitely no exte4nders used here. The bread was not really too great though. That they can improve still.

Country fries(45)photo-0001 – definitely much much better than fast food french fries. These are thick cut fries, that are dep fried just the way i like it.

This place has potential to be great, i lovfe the name. Location could use a more visible location to be more knwon quickly.  Will it last? its hard to say, We were the only ones eating here on a sunday afternoon merienda time.. photo-0006

Mastercook – Dampa, Macapagal Ave.

Filed under: Asian, Chinese, Family servings, Pasay City, Seafood — gourmandtales @ 6:24 am

Dampa – the name has been synonymous to fresh seafooseafood

Initially started in Sucat paranaque,  later on expanding to aplaces like Ortigas, Libis, and one of the lastest is the one is Macapagal Ave. Which I think right now is the more famous one.

Mastercook is one of the newest places where you can have your shopping goodies cooked. Here, unlike in other restos you cannot let them but the ingredients for you. You have to buy it for yourself.

Its a very busy place, located at the back of the complex, near the parking area.

Serive is a little slow, they lack waiters to be able to accomodate the number of people they serve.

On the Table

Prawn Tempura -sp_a3339 This is what i love ordering because you get real prawns.. well, depends on what you but. hehe.

Prawn with Sotanghon-sp_a3334sp_a33351 it was a good hing that they slice the prawn on the body to make it easier to eat with utensils. THe seasoning was indeed perfect, best eaten when hot cause it can get clumpy when it is cold

Crab rice- sp_a3337imagine tasting the essence of crab in every rice morsel. Fantastic idea, excellent blend of seasoning and spices

Crab w Ginger and Onion-sp_a3336 another excellent dish, thoug as an after thought i think it was a mistake ordering this coz the rice was already flavored by the crab. Nevertheless it was fantastic, Crab was cooked perfectly. I would order the salt and pepper crab as i see it quickly devoured on the other tables.

Like i said earlier, if not for the not too fast service, this place really is great. Would still recommend it.photo-0013
