Cebu Food Chronicles – Olio Steak and Seafood Restaurant

Filed under: American, Cebu, Continental food — gourmandtales @ 1:01 pm

After eating at a wonderful italian restaurant.. Lets looks for a steak place. there is Blank Angus. Don Mertos.  Gustavian, TinderBox and many others.. but i eneded up here after all my reaadings…. Olio Steak and Seafood restaurant. Located in Crossroads Banilad. This restaurant is now marking its 6th year in the business. THe ambience is soothing with cool lighting plus the great air conditioning and soothing music piped in the whole restaurant.

On the Table(pardon the names of the dishes, my memory is not working at its normal pace..)

Warm mini Ciabiatta bread(priceless)-sp_a1776 baked in the premises.. warm and ligjhtly crisp on the outisde, chewy insde, served with butter.. a nice way to start the meal…

Stuffed Mushrooms – sp_a1777Portabella Mushrooms, stuffed with breadcrumbs, ground meat and cheese then baked to melty perfection. Delicious.

Mille fuille of Parma Ham, Shaved Parmesan Cheese, Fresh Mozzarella cheese, Sliced grilled mushroomssp_a1778,  doused with balsamic vinegar and extra virgin olive oil. Anoither excellent dish…

Grilled salmon with pommeray mustard sauce.sp_a1780 too bad that some of the salmon flesh stuck to the grill..obvious by its appearance, however it was cooked just right, soft moist and flaky, the sauce complimented the fish.

Certified Angus rib eye steak, 400gms-sp_a1783 cooked medium and perfectly cooked as i wanted it.. medium…sp_a1785sp_a1784.THe meat was tender, succulent and full of meaty goodness. Only salt pepper and garlic was use to enhance the beefyness of this meal. Comes with creamed corn and spinach gratin.sp_a1781. which was also fantastic

Chocolate souffle with caramel sauce-sp_a1787 wonderful light and chocolatey.. lip smacking good…

Panna Cotta w Baileys sauce- sp_a1788they didnt use real vanilla bean… the baileys sauce was good though

Banana Nutella Crepesp_a1789- what can go wrong with this conbination? the crepe was made thin and hold everything together nicely

Pecan Pie-sp_a1790 this was okay.. am not really a fan of nuts…

I am not disappointed with my choice here, this restaurant alone made the trip well worth it.sp_a1786

CEbu Food Chronicles – Giuseppe Pizza and Roast

Filed under: Cebu, Italian, Pizza — gourmandtales @ 11:52 am

A trip to the Queen City of the South, in search of good food, particularly a good italian restaurant, and out of all the names that were researched. La Tegola, ROma Mia, La Gondola..etc.. This is the one that is the most interesting for me. Giuseppe Pizza and Sicilian Roast. Well, for me, anyone who would put his name in his restaurant really will tell you that he is proud of his creations.

Giuseppe Genco is a veteran Chef, worked in a lot of hotel.. the last two being, Manila Peninsula and Shangrila Mactan.. before deciding to make it on his own.  Having over 30 years of experience on his belt. He decided to open his own resto. Located ion Maria Luisa Park Road. this restaurant is not big.. just right to be manage by the Chef. He mans the kitchen himself.

This restuaarnt is already 6 years old and still going strong. People come here because of the consistency and quality of his food, not to mention the beautiful brick oven and homey ambience

On the table

Pizza – Salsiccie / Prosciutto e Formaggi (p420)sp_a18481sp_a1851

Its good that they allow the pizza to be ordered in half sections so we can try at least 2 flavours. What makes any pizza worth eating… its the crust, and they done it as good as it gets. Crispy on the outside.. a little burnt but who cares.. soft and chewy inside… between thin and being medium, the crust was absolutely delicious.  sp_a1849sp_a1850The toppings.well its could use a bit more meat. hehe,  the cheese were excellent, the pizza sauce was freshly made…

Pasta – Spaghettie Marinara in white wine sauce.. u can choose a tomato sauce if u want(P420)sp_a1852sp_a1853 – aldente pasta.. loaded with perfectly cooked seafood.  THe white wine sauce just heighten up the flavors of the seafood, nothing masked here by heavy laden cream sauce of tart tomatoes, just plain seafood goodness:)

Dessert – Pistachio Gelato- sp_a1855this was just okay

Warm chocolate Cake ala mode – this was a winner,sp_a1856sp_a1857 warm cake.. oozing with delicious chocolate… topped with vanilla ice cream made with real vanilla bean.. yummy

This place for me  is one of the best italian  places here in our country.. the other two places would be C italian dining and Cafe CAruso… sp_a1854

On the Table

Mango Crepe with Butterscotch Saucesp_a1824sp_a1830- thin crepes filled with whipped cream, topped with sliced mangoes sided with butterscotch sauce.. the sauce was thick and sweet, THe magoes were ripe and delicious, THe combination was simply amazing.. if u have a sweet tooth

Hot chocolate- ordinary… but goodsp_a1828

They recently opened in SM megamall so u dont have to go down south to Iloilo, Cagayan De Oro or Cebu anymore…sp_a1823

Cebu Food Chronicles – CNT Lechon

Filed under: Cebu, Filipino — gourmandtales @ 12:09 pm

I know, i know, you guys will say that CNT is not really the best Cebu Lechon. It is just commercialized. Well, i am not a Cebuano and this is the onyl Cebu Lechon i know so here i am at CNT ordering lechon to bring home to Manila.

I was full to the brim with my lunch in another location all i want was to order lechon that i will bring home the following day, but why ordering this is what i saw…..sp_a1840 Imagine, lechon scraps.. selling at 260 per kilo… this are the bits and ends of the lechon pieces they sell by the kilo, and for me these bits and ends have the most flavor, i just cant resist to order me 1/4 of a kilo.. for only 65pesos!!!!!

This is the most artery clogging, cholesteroil laden dessert i have ever eaten:)sp_a1841

Cebu Food Chronicles – Little Nonki

Filed under: Cebu, Japanese — gourmandtales @ 11:44 am

Japanese food is perhaps my favorite Asian Cuisine. Nothing beat the way of the japanese. Light, flavorful, delicious.

No trip is complete without trying out a famous japanese restaurant in the area. A lot of suggestion was made but i ended up here.

On the table

Fried squid pieces(priceless)sp_a1814- nothing to brag about, just enough to start the saliva flowing

Spicy Tuna Maki-sp_a1815 fresh diced tuna, seasoned with hot spices then rolled in a maki. The tuna was really fresh, the spicyness of the tuna gave me just the right level of heat.

Grilled Salted Salmonsp_a1816- be sure to spread the top with the grated radish to cut the saltiness. Cooked a little more than i would want. I prefer it to be a little bit undercooked. i love the crispiness of the skin though…yummy

Maki(forgot the name)sp_a1819sp_a1820- for got the name of this dish, sorry, nice presentation, and the flavors of the filing was excellent

Ebi Tempurasp_a1817sp_a1818 large ebi tempura. as u can see in the pic, its as long as my chopstick, and take note, it is not a thinned out shrimp, they use real prawns here.  The breading was okay, not too heavy not too light.

THis japanese restaurnt was just okay, not as authentic as the likes of Kikifuji, Tsumura. But it is very affordable. Any japanese restaurant suggestion in Cebu?sp_a1822

Cebu food Chronicles – Harbour City

Filed under: Cebu, Chinese — gourmandtales @ 11:17 am

Here is one of the most popular chinese restaurant in Cebu City. Located in Malls and in populated places in Cebu.  I went here for merienda and the place was full of people. THe push carts with different dimsum items were busy being pushed from table to table

on the table

Hakao-sp_a1811sp_a1812 the wrapper was nicely done, thin and easy to bite, the filling however was not as good as i want it to be, not as fresh as the ones they serve here in manila

Stuffed Crab clawssp_a1808- cute baby crab claws, stuffed with mince meat then breaded and deep fried. This was okay

Fried Prawn Ballssp_a1807- mince prawns mixed with extenders and fat, breaded and deep fried

Steam mince meat with quail eggssp_a1809- this was good, hot and steaming.. fresh and flavorful

Overall, this place serves cheap “filipinized” chinese dimsum, dont expect authentic cantonese dimsum here, for the price the food was great… but if your expecting real chinese food, i suggest you go some place else.sp_a18101
