Address:

36 Villa Ortigas II, Granada St.,
Quezon

Tel no: (63 2) 724-8388

Parking – limited slots available in front

THis noodle house has been there for more than 10 years already. And you can see this fact base on their signage..which still has their own 6 digit tel no, the interiors which are really outdated.

I ate here once when they initially opened. like it, but never had the chance to eat here till now. Plsce still looked the same . No significant changes.

Pork and Casbbage dumplings- mien-02mien-08Freshly cooked, served hot. Filling was substansial, tasted great. no fatty extenders. great with the dipping saucesmien-01

Shrimp and Chives Dumplings-mien-06mien-07 i was surpirsed by the contents of these dumplings. You can see the whole shrimp, and not the chopped shrimps we use to find in other places here. Very very good. Has this pan fried. the pork variant we had it steamed.

Beef tendon Noodles- mien-03 the noodles unlike the noodle houses we are used to, like north park, ling nam etc etc.. are fat just like a japanese udon. These noodle are of the taiwanese kind, which you can also find when you order noodles in Ersao. its chewy and very filing. Beef was very tender and the broth very flavorful.

Seafood Chami-mien-05 one of the dishes that is popular in this resto. Chani.. meaning pan-fried.  this dish can be a bit oily… but otherwise it was very good. It was loaded with seafood and veggies, the noodles were cooked just right.

Overall, the place still maintain its quality in regard to their food even after all these years. the place really needs a facelift though, but i guess with people still flocking to this noodle house till late in the evening, i think the owners and the customers are happy.  So i guess, why cant something that aint broke right??  to those who havent try this place.. come and enjoy their food.

Little Asia – Quezon City

Filed under: Asian, Chinese, Greenhills, Quezon City — gourmandtales @ 12:59 pm

Address: 195-B Tomas Morato Quezon City, Metro Manila

TEl No:(02) 373-0609

Parking: Valet Available

One of the better restaurants in the TOmas Morato Area, By Better i mean, not the ordinary and still serving good food until today. This place has been open for more than 5 years already. AS the name connote, Little asia serves food from different parts of asia, and a meal here can make you explore the region using your tongue.

On the table

Vietnamese Spring Rolls -asia-01 165- assorted ingredients wrapped in rice paper then  deep fried. I like the crispiness of the wrapper, it has a different texture from the usual lumpia wrapper we are used to. THe filling was made from ground meat and veggies. THe vinegar dip suited the rolls beautifully

Minced meat wrapped in Lettuce leaves- asiaanother great dish, the freshness of the lettuce still crispy and not soggy catching each and every morsels of meat. THe meat cooked with hoisin sauce was delicious

Fish Fillet with Tausa-asia-021 Tausa is like black bean but has a more grainy and less salty taste. The fish was cooked just right, still tender and flaky.

Emperor Fried Rice P165-asia-03 THis restaurant for me serves the best tasting fried rice. Rice palang ulam na. ITs so tasty that you can eat the rice alone. really really yummy

Salt and Pepper Spareribs P185- asia-04this was okay, nothing special here

Korean Beef Stew P285-asia-05 great version, the beef was tender, the sauce was very very good,

Beef Rolls P285-asia-061 i used to remember the beef they used was super soft, this time the beef was not as soft as i would like it to be.

Mapo Tofu 155-asia-07 silken tofu, and i mean silken, soft, melts in you mouth tofu, the sauce huggin each tofu, mixing spicy, a little sweet and salty tones, great with a cup of plain rice

Vietnamese Sagot Gulaman 80asia-08- this was so-so, i just love the colors.. reminding me of Christmas

Great meal. This place never fails to satisfy an empty stomach:)

Sun Moon Garden – Greenhills

Filed under: Chinese, Family servings, Greenhills — gourmandtales @ 10:30 am

Address:  G/F Shoppesville, Greenhills Shopping Center
San Juan City
Tel: (02) 721-0856
(02) 721-1356

Operating Hours: 11am to 10pm

I think this is the oldest restaurant in the Greenhills Shopping Center. It had withstood the test of time, nothing has changed much with this restaurant. People still flock here to eat Chinese food.

On the Table

Sweet and sour pork-sp_a2467 one of my basis if the Chinese restaurant is good. Well, their version is not good, the pork wasn’t tender.

Sauteed spinach with Garlic-sp_a2468 nicely done, fresh spinach, cooked just right, maintaining its color, The garlic wasn’t too overpowering

Sun moon garden Chicken- sp_a2469Their own creation of crispy fried chicken tossed in a sweet sate sauce then coats each piece of chicken, penetrating the skin…

Crab foo yung- One osp_a2470f the better crab foo yung here in Manila. The sauce compliments the eggs/crab veggie combination. The sweet crab meat has no tinge on fishy odor or taste..

Oyster Omelette-sp_a2471 a south china specialty. A big dish for its price. Very good.

Ox Tail Hot Pot- sp_a2472this was a disappointment, I was expecting the oxtail to be gelatinous and soft, however the skin and fat was not…

Crispy Tofu- nice dish. Crispy outside,sp_a2473 Tofu was of the firm kind but still a little soft and smooth. . Dip it in either black vinegar of sweet and sour sauce.. yummy

Sun moon garden does Chinese food good, that’s why its always packed during meal time. But they do Chinese food to suit the pinoy taste. Other specialties here are the crab dishes, a little expensive though at 130pesos per 100 gms, even more expensive than Red Crab or Crustasia.

Penang Hill – Greenhills

Filed under: Asian, Family servings, Greenhills — gourmandtales @ 11:47 am

Penang Hill is one of the most sought after tourist spot/resort in Malaysia. Why this restaurant is named after a Malaysian tourist spot, i have no idea why. THe place specializes in Southeaast asian cuisine..

On the Table

Roti Canai 95- a big piece of multilayered pancake type of bread. Its afalt bread consisting of fat(butter), flour, egg and water. Usially serve with curry, where in you tear apiece of the Roti and dip it unto the Curry. Their version is one of the better Roti that can be find here in Manila

Crispy Catfish Salad 195—underneath the green mango slivers, onions and cilantro, is a pile of crispy catfish floss, fried without the oily aftertaste. Mixed everything up and u get the taste of the sourness of the mangoes, the crisp of the fish, the tangy sweetness of the dressing.. The freshness of the ingredients used makes this salad wonderful

Hainanese Chicken 260- This was very very good, one of the better Hainanese Chicken here in Manila. Served with 3 different sauces which were perfect for the chicken. The chicken itself was cooked beautifully. Tender and juicy. Comes with a cup of gingered rice.

Chicken Tandorri 190- a whole chiken leg/thigh, deeply flavored by Indian spices. Penetrating the chicken to the bone. The accompanying yogurt, balances the flavors.

Sweet and Spicy Pork Ribs 250- the problem with this dish was the pork was over cooked, it became dry and tough. They came thru with the sweet and spicy taste. It’s the meat that disappointed me.

Braised Beef Brisket 250- Cubed beef briskets with mushrooms(canned), carrots. Beef was tender. The sauce was ok. Nothing extraordinary

Seafood Hot pot 240- this was ok, nothing to brag home about..

Oyster Pancake 165- plump fresh little oysters cooked well., the pancake was made with eggs, fried to a golden brown crisp. Great dish,

Char Kwey Teow280- Stir fried flat noodles, with an assortment of meat incorporated. A little oily as u can see by the sheen on top of the noodles. Huge flavors here, Right amount of sweet, salty and spices.

There were hits and misses on the dishes we ordered. Overall, If u know what to order and what to avoid, the restaurant’s food is pretty ok. Good Hainanese Chicken and Roti.

Definitely deserving of a return trip in the future…..
