Christmas Party Suggestions – Dulcelin Gourmet Food

Filed under: Uncategorized — gourmandtales @ 6:12 am

Dulcelin has made a name for itself because of its Mango Torte, that ultra delicious dessert.

Being a regular ourawesomeplanet reader, I saw  this  post few months back where they feature dishes of dulcelin that are not of the dessert kind. So we got the chance to order it and try it ourselves

Seared tuna with red rice salad(P1600) good for 10pax-  at first I was hesitant, rice with salad?  But when I got to taste it, it was very very good. The tuna slices were seared perfectly, keeping the middle raw and yummy.  The dressing was egg based with hints of wasabi but not too spicy or overpowering.  It has big shrimps also:) The greens were fresh and crispy and the rice was cooked just right, Combined everything together and it complemented each other.

Roast Angus short ribs(P1300/kg)-  they advertise this as being cooked  for 48 hours. It was one of the better roast beef out there, meat was tender, and I mean TENDER!!! But not to the point of being mushy, it still held its shape and meaty texture but it was so easy to eat that it was hard not to eat a lot of it. Seasoned perfectly. All it need was a cup of steaming plain rice or mashed potatoes!!

Hanobe Asian Food House – Quezon City

Filed under: Asian, Banawe, Quezon City, Uncategorized — gourmandtales @ 10:49 am

Address: 99 Ma.Clara St., Quezon City
Tel no: 7314381
Parking: Limited Spaces in front of the restaurant
Going to back to restaurants in the Banawe, Quezon city area
This started out as a small restaurant which opened basically the same time as Old Chinatown Kopitiam, there are nights when this place would be empty and the Kopitiam would be bustling with customers. I don’t know how they did it, but they were able to make the place bigger and now commands lines of people waiting to be seated during dinners. They removed dimsum items and concentrated on short orders.
Place was quite cramped. Waiters keep on bumping into you while serving people from different tables, which could be a bit irritating.

Hong Ma with superior sauce–DSC03013 one of their specialties, slices of pork belly braised in a thick brown sauce. This was definitely delicious. The pork belly was fork tender and didn’t gave us any difficulty in eating. I hope they would serve this with Mantau bread.DSC03015

Sweet and sour fish fillet- DSC03017the fish fillet was still crispy even with the doused sweet and sour sauce on top of it, which made more delectable.

Yang Chow fried rice- DSC03016a small serving is good for two, it has lots of meat pieces and the rice was fried beautifully without being oily.

Chicken and shrimp Bacon roll- DSC03019DSC03020this was the only dish which we didn’t like on this dinner. I was expecting something like this one we ordered at Shin Choi, but this one fails in comparison. This is more Chicken than shrimp… The mayonnaise they used didn’t give the dish nay help either.
There are quite a number of dishes I wanted to try. Like their fried chicken that I see every table ordering.. looks really good… till the next visit:)

Hongkong Food Chronicles – Breakfast at Cafe de Coral

Filed under: Uncategorized — gourmandtales @ 11:28 am

i used to love Eating at Cafe de Coral cause what you see(in the pics)  is what you get. But lately, the quality has dwindled. To those who dont know what Cafe de Coral is. Its the Hongkong equivalent of Jollibee. Its their most famous fastfood chain.

Here is what we had for breakfast. Omelette with Crispy pork and breadSP_A2763. Eggs were perfectly cooked. Still a little rummy. Break was sliced thick just the way i like it. The crispy pork was just okay

Congee with pan fried radish cakeSP_A2764- i hope the radish cake was toasted more. The congee was just okay as well. Service was fast and efficient.

Dumaguete Series – Best Dumaguete Pasalubong

Filed under: Dumaguete City — gourmandtales @ 9:36 am

Buttery, rich, creamy. this is how i describe the best pasalubong to bring home from Dumaguete and for me, they have the best Silvanas in the Country.sansrival

I prefer their Silvanas over their Sanrival. Because of the size. Being small the silvanas can be eaten easily by a single person. I usually pair it with fruits.  Trust me, its worth hand carrying it and bringing it to people you love. And for 10 per piece of Silvanas, its also very affordable.

Another pasalubong would be the dumaguete Longganisa which looks like the longganisa of Vigan but packing more paprika for the intense maroon color and sweetish flavor compared to the wildy garlicky flavour of the Vigan Longanisa

Dumaguete Series – Casablanca

Filed under: Continental food, Dumaguete City — gourmandtales @ 12:55 pm

I wonder if being a city of gentle people makes them more liken by Expats… Because there are a lot and i mean a lot of Foregin retirees in this city. Among the business that these expats are into are into the food and restaurant business. There are a lot of restaurants in this city, especializing in different cuisines.

Among the new ones is this restaurant opened by an Austrian Chef. Named Casa Blanca.

On the Table

Spaetzle with ham and onions-dumague1 Spaetzle is  a german dish made from dough like noodles but shaped like little dumpling, some chef would just pass the dough thru a strainer with large holes to make the shape. This disih had a mild flavour, the speatzle soaking up the ham and onion flavour.  It was good.

Casablanca Steak- dumague2asked to be cooked medium, and it was delivered tome medium. good….The sauce was also very very good , the mashed potato was freshly made and not the powedered form.  The eat was very tender and flavourful, the sauce complemented it well

Crepe stuffed with ice cream- dumague3this was just ordinary, nothing to brag about.dumague

Taste of L.A. – Quezon City

Filed under: Uncategorized — gourmandtales @ 1:07 pm

Address: 171 A. Roces Ave. cor. Tomas Morato
Quezon City

Tel: (02) 374-2461
(02) 525-13

Capacity: 100

Parking: Available in front and back of the restaurant

A lot of restaurants have come and gone in the Tomas Morato Strip and this restaurant has been there since the early 90s, maybe even before, I don’t know. One of the first restaurants to have its own brick oven.. They make use of that oven quite a bit in a lot of their dishes, especially their pizzas that I keep on coming back to.

The layout of the place is kinda different, The have a lot of dining areas, perfect for groups and dates. Very dim lit, so I hope u can forgive me with the pictures that I have to use a flash…

Lots of items in the menu, lots of things to try, from Continental fare to Asian. Seafood to Meat, Salad etc etc…

Service was not really top notch, there are a number of times that the waiters are not that attentive.. and u really have to call their attention.

On the Table

Baked Oysters Rockefeller-(320) 8 pieces of Fresh oysters, topped with cheese, spinach and bacon, baked in their Pugon oven, till it forms a nice cheesy crust. Very very good, Oysters very cooked just to the right point of doneness. The topping blend was fabulously done.

Lamb Pizza- thin to medium crust pizza, freshly rolled out, topped with lamb meat, black olives, mushroom, rosemary, mozzarella cheese. Their pizzas for me is among the best here in Manila. They also have an extra thin version, this is the regular version.

The lamb exudes the gamey flavor that is distinctly lamb. The cheese was rubbery and creamy at the same time… another very good dish.

Seafood Pasta—Well, I usually partner a pizza order with a pasta dish.. Taste of La’s pasta dishes are not really exceptional. It as wasjust ok…

I still love this place and I always recommend it to people who ask whats a nice place to eat in the Tomas Morato area, aside from Katre and Uno and Zuchinnis
